Swimming Pools

I would like to know if you can run 12/2 UF cable to feed pump motor for pool. (above ground)52" deep.
Inspector wants PVC run with insulated ground wire and exspansion joints on pipe.

Inspector is correct. Read through 680. BEFORE you do the job. Might save you aome headaches.

I wonder why he wants expansion joints? I don't see that in the wiring methods of 680. I'v never been called to put them in.

Depending on your geographic location in the country, he may be concerned with ground movement from frost heave, such as here in the northeast. [300.5(J)]
