Here is my serious take on the FLU.

1. Our government should be genuinely concerned and be in the process of determining a plan of action.
2. The public should take reasonable cautions.
3. The news media should state the facts and stop the overblown hype.

the media is blowing this all out of proportion. all this is a different strain of the influenza virus. its no more dangerous or contagious than the regular flu. just wash your hands and your fine. they make it seem like were all going to die within seconds.

We received an email from a customer yesterday, telling us that no vendors or employees that had been to Mexico in the last 5 days would be permitted on their facilities.

I wonder how they plan on enforcing that? are they asking for passports when you enter the building?

I refuse to go through life worrying about SARS, AIDS, swine flu, bird flu, or whatever the disease de jour happens to be this week. I'm not fearful of a terrorist attack, the next big earthquake, or a planet killing asteroid.

I live a fairly healthful lifestyle and know for a fact that me and all of my loved ones and friends will die sooner or later.

One thing I have noticed in my journey so far is that I cannot begin to predict who the next person close to me to die will be, or how it will come about.

I may seem careless and/or naive but I'm also fairly content.

If you've stood on the old bridge lately you'd know why they're building the new one. It may have been pretty good in 1921 but right now I speed up, hold my breath and race to the other side. I'll put my money on the new crew any day. I've personally worked with Cal-Trans for over 16 years trying to get to this point. It was $18m back then and over $60m today (plus change orders.

Guess using the bridge beats the flu.

Don't panic

Don't panic

The only US death was a boy from Mexico who died in a US hospital...he contracted disease in Mexico... FYI the old fashioned regular flu we get every year kills 36,000 people. Imagine that...almost 40,000 people die every year from the FLU...I was at JFK airport, NYC yesterday, saw some people wearing masks. I'm not worried in the least.

unfortunately our current group of public officials instinctively lie about everything. we get so many stories about what is going on that it is seriously confusing, which naturally makes people worry.
