I have never actually read the "Americans with Disabilities Act." There might be something in there. But it is certainly not in the National Electrical Code.
 
Please be aware that in the thread that is linked to, Roger's diagram is based on the ADAAG. Many, if not most, areas don't use the ADAAG, they use the ICC/ANSI A117.1 instead. That document doesn't recognize a 54" unobstructed reach on parallel approach. 48" is the absolute highest, regardless of approach.
 
thanks for the quick reply . i'm currently roughing in a beauty salon and was was trying to find out if the switch height in the bathroom had to be no more than 48" to center . did not see anything on the prints.
