I'm working on a project where there are existing 7-jaw, 100A, 208Y/120V, 3 phase, 4W meters with 100A breakers on the switchboard that feeds tenant spaces. This is a new building where the switchboard was installed for the building shell. Currently, there are 10 spare 100A feeders conduits going up to the upper floor. However, one tenant is taking over the entire floor and I need to provide a 400A, 208Y/120V, 3 phase, 4W service to that floor. The existing switchboard is setup with 8 tenant meters per section and there are 4 metering sections on the switchboard. My question is would I be able to remove the four 7-jaw, 100A meters, and 100A main breakers in one section of the board and provide a new 7-jaw, 200A, 208Y/120V, 3 phase, 4W meter with a 3P400 main breaker to feed the tenant space that I am working on? Since one section has four 7-jaw, 100A meters am I able to switch out the meter socket to a 7-jaw 200A meter socket, or does the section of the switchboard limit me to only putting 7-jaw 100A meter sockets? The switchboard has a 1600A main and the demand load of the building 970 demand amps. I hope I explained this correctly.
