Hi all,

I would like to ask for any advice regarding circuit breakers that also breaks the neutral. What exactly does this do and why? What applications are these breakers used for? The only thing I could think of is gas pump or manual transfer switches. I am trying to figure out the theory or logic behind these type of breakers. I appreciate any input..... Thanks!

I first encountered them in the realm of marine engineering. Certain spaces on oil tankers, for example, are required (by Coast Guard regulations, not by the NEC) to be served via switched-netural breakers.

I suppose it has t do with possibility of a fire resulting from a spark of of a nuetral.
