Switched Receptacle, 6' rule

I know in the old days some electricians would switch the whole duplex rec near the door. Now I know in the 2008 if you do that then you need to add another receptacle near the door to meet the requirement of the 6' rule.

So I guess my question is when did this go in effect?
What year code book were you aloud to do this particular install?
 
I don't think the NEC has ever differentiated between constant-hot and switched receps in the spacing requirements of 210.52.
 
The 2008 now requires the receptacles that are used for the 6' and 12' spacing requirements to be constantly energized. A half switched duplex will still satisfy the new requirement and still provide a switched lighting outlet. If I remember correctly a member of this forum is responsible for this change.

I see it now.... 210.52(2). I was looking in 210.52 (A)..

So the answer to the OPs question is...... 2008! ;)
 
Well good, because I did that the other day, and I was reading my 2008 NEC hand book, and said" oh no ,I just violated the code!" I might get lucky because, I do not think the county has adopted the 2008 yet!
