Switches inside Sauna

In this custom sauna ( Dry ) We have speakers low voltage, Exhuast fan ,2 can lights i believe shower trims if not damp location fixtures, and some type of bench light. You enter from a large walk in shower.So mounting switches in shower is not a option. Can switches go in this sauna? I am reading the instructions on how the controls are to be on the outside of sauna witch has a nice control box with timer and temperature setting. There is a hall just before the shower and I will put it there. How ever the switches are all ready roughed in and I notice in the instruction how water may be used on the element to create steam. Thank you andy

its a sauna, not a shower, switches are fine. Ever enter one of those things? the only thing I'd be afraid of is the switch plate melting... ;)
 
A sauna is quite dry. It's normally about 5% inside, and climbs to just over 20% when you ladle water on the rocks. I wouldn't hesitate to mount switches inside a sauna, but I sure wouldn't mount anything "electronic" in nature inside. The conductors might need to be derated, much like wiring a commercial walk-in oven.

Whats the exhust fan for? just to vent it out after each use? They do get a little funky. I hate when I get a trouble call at the local fitness center, people do the dumbest things with these units.

I was thinking out the whole exhaust fan and as air tight those saunas are it could only run properly if the door was open. not sure about this location.

If the sauna is air tight, then it was not built correctly, they always have a vent down low near the heater, and a vent up high to create air circulation.

The fan is not needed in my opinion, except if you wanted to vent the thing out after use, but you would have to leave the door open.
