Switching conduit from buried to exterior run

I have some galvanized RMC coming up out of the ground and into a metal j-box. From the j-box, I have another exterior run of some distance before entering the main panel. Must I maintain RMC between the metal j-box (above ground) and the main panel, or can I switch to PVC conduit? I can't figure out how to look this up in the code, and have searched this forum, but can't find anything that discusses it. Thanks for your input.
