plans for house showed cans in this area and builder informed me that I only have 2” clearance
owner does not want scones and nothing hanging.
Her goal is ambient lighting.
Above the center beam is a 7” cavity ,was thinking linear lighting up there but still won’t
Possible some hugging the beams were they meet T&G. Any good Reba that will do cad drawing for customer?

You could recess aluminum extrusions for tape light running parallel to the beams

"I want light without a light source!" ~ Good luck.

What are the boards at the very top of the pic? They appear to be below the rafters.

cant the wafer lights fit in a 2 inch space ,sometimes called rat traps
It’s completely solid I thought that same thing, but I also have to cut out for the housing and it has to be accessible. That’s to much meet to take out of the T&G
Was just going to route a path for wire above but then realized about the housing

Could ceiling "uplighting" from the periphery around the top of the walls be done? You would be relying on reflected light from the ceiling, but it would emphasize the woodwork which appears to be what the owner wants. The GC might need to get someone to do any necessary carpentry details for up-lights that are hidden behind a board, etc.
