Ok your in Jersey, i am in a small town here in Jersey, My rates are based on overhead, and operating costs, not some guess, they are about in the middle, not too high, and not in the dirt, however, we have a large number of guys, that charge with the wind, if they think, they may loose a job, they panic, and start seeing how low they can go, win at all costs, loose as much as it takes, then there was the group, that said you can't get your prices around here, that changed about two years ago, when a few new guys moved in town, and started charging twice, what the others were charging, and they are getting the lions share of the work, they are always busy, and their guys are working overtime, so that blows the idea of you cant charge too much, most of the ones that were lowering prices, to get work, are not in business anymore.

Just curious... so if I increase my overhead(new Porsche)& operating expenses( more advertising & hotter girls in the office) I should raise my rates proportionatly?
I never understood this.
I just charge a little more than most & a little less than a few, and be better than everyone.
Just my formula

Am i missing something? your overhead, and operating costs, determine your rates, you need to control them to compete in the market place.

There are a lot of EC's, that look at what others are charging, then try to use that as a price point, everyones costs are different, trying to use others pricing, or guessing is not a good business practice.

You also can't make money on a job you don't do. If you aren't making enough money even if you get plenty of calls, you may have to lower your prices. I'd rather make some money on a job than no money.

if you know your costs, you know what to charge. if you don't know your costs, how do you know you are making "some money"?

if you are not making a lot of money, go work for someone else. then you'll make some money, without all the aggrevation.
