Hi
i'm an engineer from abroad and have a simple question. According to the standard of NEC articles 336 and 392, cables without TC marking may also be used in a cable tray (in house). Is the cable mark TC a must?
thx Bern
I suppose it depends on which Edition you are referring to, but I'm stunned none of our other colleagues didn't mention Section 336.6. [2017 NEC (latest Edition)]there is not a simple answer.
Article 336 only describes tray cables. I don't see how they could be TC without being so marked, however, it appears there is no requirement in article 336 that TC be listed. That is a curious omission.
You can indeed install cables other than type TC in a tray cable, as long as it is one of the wiring methods found in table 392.10(A) and you follow the rules found in the article that applies to that wiring method.
Cable tray use is not prohibited in dwellings but is rarely if ever used in houses.

BTW Section 3xx.6 is now pretty much the default location for mentioning a Chapter Three product's listing requirements.

No.... is it necessary to use a TC cable? That was my main question.
...
Search the term "cable tray" in this document: http://www.ul.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/WC_MG.pdf...
But how we can use the sektion "Other factory-assembled, multiconductor control, signal, or power cables that are specifically approved for installation in cable trays" there could I find critrias for this approvement.
.... or is it only a circle dependency to the TC Cable ?
