Is it acceptable to install a Plug connector directly to the end of a TC rated cable? Are you aware of what code or UL reference that allows or disallows it? Thanks.

I believe listing instructions will state what you are calling a plug connector is specifically designed to be installed on the end of a cord only.

That said, you may be able to find a "cord" that qualifies under Table 392.10(A) Wiring Method as:

Other factory-assembled,
multiconductor control,
signal, or power cables that
are specifically approved
for installation in cable
trays
