Greetings,

I am working on a telecommunication pole and I wondered if I have to consider lightening protection.

Thanks in advance.

The antennas and mast are in the scope of art 810 and 820, which require grounding and bonding for lightning protection. For antennas, a metal pole is preferrable to wood, due to lightning being high frequency, the metal pole will have much less impedance. It depends on lighting exposure (location) and how critical the equipment is.

Ok Thanks. Does it require to use a lightening rod or just grounding the telecommunication pole/tower would be enough? What the are rules for sizing grounding cable?

Lightning protection is optional and is covered in another NFPA standard. I suggest you review art 810 and 820 and then ask for clarification, cant give a simple answer.
