I'm running XP Professional and have no problem with the site using IE8.
Check all your settings, something in your system may have changed which
is very common.
 
I've been using Mozilla Firefox exclusively. Works great. Prior to switching to Mozilla there were certain features on (2) websites that I maintain that would not work or you could not see using IE. They work fine with Mozilla. Just a thought. :cool:

This is a good point. Sometimes your system secretly downloads updates and they inadvertently makes changes that you may not want.

I have probably 8 DOS systems, 3 or 4 I regularly use. 1 NT sysytem. This is vital to run a version of Paradox for Windows. Possibly 6 XP systems, and nothing later. I use Microsoft operating systems only because I started using the 8086 in 1978. Thus, I am in the Intel camp. Windows before XP was pretty bad, and XP has been reasonably satisfactory.

The only two viable designs in 1978 for a CPU that would meet my needs were the 8086 and the 68000. 68000s were still buggy and not in production. Thus, I had to go with the 8086.

I consider Microsoft products as junk, but I live with the problems. They have not been concerned with bug free rock solid reliable software.

At the present I don't plan to change from XP.


Is the DTE website providing data to you yet? I recently added an account and now I can not get data from the original working account. This is another example of someone providing junk software. A year and a half ago the analysis software was relatively good, but needed some improvement. November of 2013 the original analysis software was completely replaced with less useful software, although there were some improvements. This fall the program is degenerating. Now IE8 only goes to a point and hangs. Firefox works but is very slow. Chrome works, but not completely.

What is new on the cottage wiring and burned GFCIs? Put that info in the other thread.

Uh, sorry about that; x86 a terrible architecture. The Z8000 was introduced around the same time (1979), it wasn't suitable?

BTW, I still have XP machines (and win7), one with win2k, and can boot MS-DOS when I need it. MS-DOS is not to be confused with DOS (aka DOS/360, which was released in the mid 1960's for their mainframes). There are also the various PDP-11 parts, but none of them form a running system at the moment.

I can see your point knowing what you do for a living. I still have a W98SE, XP machine but went to a new W7 Pro machine four years ago just to get the XPMODE because I had some old apps that might not install/run under W7. Actually on a dual-boot system with W7/W10TP right now.

NaDa on the DTE stuff! Don't even show my second meter's serial number in my online account yet. My niece who lives in St. Clair Shores had two installed during the summer and has no data shown yet either.

On the cottage burn out, they just got a Generac 11kW standby generator fully connected yesterday and tested. The electrical contractor came back for the start up and to finish up a overhead fan but it seems it was more than a transformer, the motor got smoked as well. They also found out that their electric stove's oven doesn't work. More to add to the insurance claim that might be denied regardless.

We had to deliver product by early 1979, and I did not want to use our older system based on the 74181. However, 181 systems that we first made in 1971 were still working in automotive plants into the 2000s.

One can not meet a deadline and deliver product with a component that is not developed and in production. Yes, the 8086 was a poor logical design, but it worked and was available. My recollection is that the Z8000 was further behind in development than the 68000 and thus could not be given any consideration.
