I have a lightpole with a 150 HPS lamp and ballast. The underground conduit that is feeding this pole is compromised. I need to power up this light temporarily because it is a safety concern at night. Can I legally or compliant to code run temporary power to this light pole till I get it fixed?

If the voltage is 120v, the cord can be protected against severe damage such as vehicles, and there is no pubic pedestrian traffic: I would ask if hard usage cord and GFCI protection would be acceptable for a short temp fix.

is there any reference to the code book that would substantiate the decision to run cord as a temporary fix provoded it is protected and the a GFCI is used?

I am basically fudging this as a 590 install that allows hard usage cords to be used temporarily.

590.4 (C) Branch Circuits. All branch circuits shall originate in
an approved power outlet or panelboard. Conductors shall
be permitted within cable assemblies or within multiconductor
cord or cable of a type identified in Table 400.4 for
hard usage or extra-hard usage.
