Termites?

Anyone know what this is I bought this house just finished demo this is on the 2nd floor and seems to be the only board affected house was built 1920-30s

Looks like wood boring beetle damage, to me.

I don't know. I have never worked on a house that's been gutted that didn't have some structural damage. Termites, dry rot, water damage or whatever.

yup. the show was over when it went to the sawmill.

Boring beetles when the tree was alive, not termites eating dead wood. You can tell because the wood was milled AFTER the holes were bored, that’s why you can see the trace. If the damage was new, all you would see is a round hole. In the sawmill back in those days, that board would not have been wasted, but would have been marked to be used in places where the boring beetle damage was cosmetically and structurally insignificant, as in flooring underlayment or wall boards behind lath and plaster, then kiln dried with steam heat to kill any remaining beetles. If you look closely you can see that the boards next to it were left rough sawn, this one made it through the finishing mill before they saw the beetle damage, so they relegated it to the same pile of wood as the rough sawn lumber. Only the demo man will see it...

Now days they would charge you extra for that wood...
