I was watching mad electricity on the history channel and it showed Teslas Wardenclyffe tower . It is only a few blocks from my house and I never knew it. Holy Cow! I will have to figure out how to access it next week after Marconi stiffed him.

I watched the same show, Modern Marvels, I think it was. It is absolutley mind blowing the things Tesla came up with. All electricians should take an hour out of their day to find out more about this guy. He is the reason we do what we do.

Nicola Tesla's Tower Circa 1900

Supposedly, this tower is able to tap into the potential difference between the ionesphere and the planet surface. By boring a hole up through the native capacitance of the atmosphere into the ionesphere (using 40 MHz bursts of energy), a direct short could be created whereby an endless stream of electrical energy could be tapped and voila: Free energy.

This picture came from the James M. McCanney, M.S. web site and is supposedly only available there. Of course, there's tons of stuff available on Tesla via Google.

Below are excerpts from McCanney's comments on the tower:

"Why did the government tear it down?
Why are we paying for polluting power of oil, coal and nuclear power?
Now that my theoretical work has rediscovered the principles of the TESLA tower and unlimited free electrical power from the ionosphere (as printed in my book [ see web site ] why are we not pursuing this free energy on a world wide scale?
The military quickly built such a tower last July ... near Kanata Canada and when they tapped into the ionosphere ... [ not putting any control electronics on their tower ] ... the surge blew out the north east electric power grid corridor - the recent Dept of Energy report was another cover up ..."
Tesla eventually died, literally pennyless, on January 7th, 1943. It is rather sad that a man who gave the world so much, received so little for his efforts. History books have been unkind as well. Even today, many texts still credit Marconi with the invention of radio, despite the Supreme Court decision which overruled the Marconi patent, awarding it to Tesla. In many parts of this country, people still refer to the electric utility as the 'Edison Company', even though they use the Tesla-Westinghouse alternating current system, NOT Edison's direct current. At the Niagra Falls power generating station, a small statue of Tesla is purposely left unilluminated at night. It has been said that Tesla is the Forgotten Father of Technology. Tesla himself once commented "... The present is theirs. (skeptics of the day) The future, for which I really worked, is mine."

Mike Holt's Comment: Fact or fiction? I don't know. But it sure is interesting.

Rockyd says:
Mankind has never really appreciated the efforts of the Serb, who's proudest paper was the one that made him a naturalized U.S. citizen.

Thank you Mr. Tesla!

Tesla was an absolute genius. I have a book of all his patents - the depth and breadth is incredible. It's too bad that Edison seems to get the credit for the early electrical innovation, while Tesla was the real innovator (anyone heard of AC?) that set the stage for the electrical infrastructure we have today. I guess that shows that it's the guys who turn to business that are the ones that make their name. In grad school a group of us used to read up on his experiments and then build our own coils from scrap we found around the department (we were "starving students"). We even built one using a bush beer case as the form for the primary - that went over pretty well when we used it as a demo in "EE 101"!

There's a home-made video somewhere on YouTube in which a man is standing outside the gates of Wardenclyffe saying a few words about Tesla and showing what's left of the site. It's all run down and overgrown. It's pretty sad. The tower is gone, of course. I think it was sold for scrap to cover some of Tesla's debt.

I will explore it myself next week when I have time. Have you ever seen a cow in camoflage and sunglasses snooping around?? I will take pics I might need help to download them though. I cant seem to size the pixels small enough to upload to site.

I highly recommend reading "Empires of light" if you have any interest in learning more about him and his life, much more than any TV show can ever cover.

That was awesome I was glued to the tv for every second. The difference between horse and buggy and jet planes was this man tesla and everybody had a turn doing him wrong.

If you like, PM me for my email address, send the pics to me, and I'll host them on my server and link to them, or send you the links back for you to post them.

I am a huge fan of TESLA. "Empire of Light" is a must read for anyone
in the electrical Industry Tesla was nothing short of pure genius.
The only credit I give Edison is the electric chair and electrocuting a elephant.
I even hate GE panels to this day.:D

One day there will be another Tesla. I wonder if the next Tesla is on this
forum right now. God knows it aint me!:D
I never knew how bad that Edison ripped him off I am really pissed at that fake Edison. Then Marconi jumped in and really socked it to him. Phoney bologney. I dont know if they will show a starry eyed cow around the joint but I will come bearing donuts and coffee this usually works. I cant wait to see mad electricity again. I need to break free butI am booked solid till wed the earliest.

Sounds like bankers, or politicians today!

I'm in the process of reading Tesla's autobiography. It's called, "My Inventions." I highly recommend checking it out. He was brilliant. It's very humbling to discover all of the amazing things this guy came up with way back then.

Tesla is very much an unsung hero in the field of electrical engineering.
Edison is a household name. Tesla is as deserving of public acclaim, maybe even more so. Yet, I suspect he is not well-known outside the electrical fraternity.
