Test question question

But what I find strange about that as a test question is 250.118(14) specifies "if listed".
Per 386.6, surface metal raceway that is not listed is not permitted to be installed. The listing standard includes testing to verify that the surface metal raceway is suitable for use as an EGC.

I called wiremold about it 10 years ago and they said pigtail required on 500 and 700 boxes . Not the channel.
Wiremold 3000 or higher boxes pigtail not required.

Well this seems all kind of confusing. Note 250.118(14) says "listed for grounding", not just "listed". So it seems to me wire mold can be listed but not listed for grounding.

That is not correct. Part of the listing standard for surface metal raceway is evaluation for use as an EGC. If it does not past that evaluation, it is not listed.
UL-5 Standard for Safety for Surface Metal Raceways, provides test currents that are based on the maximum permitted wire size for the size of the raceway. The surface metal raceway installed in accordance with the installation instructions must carry the prescribe test current for at least 3 seconds. The test current is 300 amps for 14AWG, 470 amps for 12 AWG, 750 amps for 10 AWG and 12,000 amps for 250kcmil.

Ok fair enough, so why put "if listed for grounding" in 250.118?

Well anyway, the NEC is dumb for making things confusing, and i think its a bad test question if you have to know the details of the product standard to answer the question.
Maybe there was a time when surface metal raceway was not required to be listed and if so, then the language in 250.118 would be correct.
As far as the NEC being dumb, have you ever tried to fix any of the language that you consider dumb? Remember, that in general, the code is written by the code users, not the NFPA or the code making panels.
The system is open for the submission of Public Inputs for the 2029 NEC right now.
