Re: Test to post

growler hows that edit? not a speller. my wife would argue on the lover part, but I can wire a house. :D

Re: Test to post

I hope there wouldn't be a test, because there are lots of guys that know more than me, and you guys would kick me out :(
On the other hand, I'm here to learn, so it OK. I hope you'll let me stay .... :D

Re: Test to post

Ok every one can stay Just don't say your a electrician and then ask if a kitchen counter top receptacle should be GFI or not.

Re: Test to post

When I got started in this industry, I used to skip the parts of the NEC that I did not understand - which was most of it - really.

I followed what others were teaching me... little did I know that they were just doing what they were taught. We were all following the others like lemmings.

What I am trying to say is that we are not experts in all parts of the vast NEC. So if someone wants to ask a question here, we should not stop them, as that is how they/we will learn and not necessarily become Lemmings.
70E & the definition of Qualified Person states it well, that we are not all qualified in every aspect of our industry.

Bring on the questions...

Which way should the ground prong be? Up or Down :D

But I do know what you mean about the kitchen question.
**************

We can solve the ground up/down thing by using 2 prong recept. and a GFCI CB.

Re: Test to post

maybe evolutionarily we will in the future, but for now we are not born with the collective knowledge of those who came before us.

not tryin to be an arse but ya gotta start somewhere right? i think the fact that someone even seeks out this board and posts shows they have an slightly greater then normal interest.

Wyatt, I read that other thread and I agree with you.

I hired a green-as-a-gourd kid as a helper recently, who in an conversation that I overheard with a mason, claimed that he was an "electrician". DOH!

Re: Test to post

Could this "test" be such that the people who would pass the "test" wouldn't have any questions that they need answered because they already had all the answers because they passed the "test?"
Thus, a forum made of people who passed the "test" would already have all of the answers so no questions would need to be posted = no need for this forum.
However I believe we all have asked questions that others feel that we should have the answer to. But it's hard to define where the "line" should be draw between those questions that one would judge to be relevant and questions that a very elementary, some may classify them as stupid, as each of us would draw that line in a different place.

Re: Test to post

Just ranting last night, first off I have no problem with some one asking a question. I have been taught that the only dumb one is the one not asked. I guess what I was going on about was the 1 and 2 time posters, you know that they are DIYers. and they put on there profile electrician or EE. A lot of people on this site or real sharp. shows me just how much I need to learn my self. You all have worked a hard for a long time. Taken a lot of crap of your formans/masters and studied to get to the point to call your self electricians.

Re: Test to post

Wyatt, I think I understand where you are coming from by trying to screen the members, only to filter the DIYers. Makes sense but some of the the?new electricians might not pass.

Re: Test to post

Wyatt I know a lot of EEs that could not wire a switch or know what end of the hammer to hold. That don't mean their profile isn't accurate.

Re: Test to post

The only test one should have to pass is whether you can post your topic in the proper forum - or else you may feel the wrath of Scott. :D
