Testing cables in my audio studio

I have a recording studio in my home. The recording console takes DB-25 connectors as do the patch bays. Often times I go through an awfully unpleasant time when I have to take a cable out and individually test each pin with my continuity checker to find which cable has gone bad.
I looked on the internet and found a neat cable tester but it's over $1,200.00. Does anyone know of a cheaper, yet reliable tester for DB-25 and DB-9 as well as 1/4 phono and RCA configurations?
I'm thinking I might be able to make one fairly inexpensively...but it'll take a lot of time soldering.
Thanks in advance for any heads up.

Go to markertek.com, the item you need for testing DB cables is Catalog #ECL400-007, (page 53 of the current catalog) and it costs $139.99

They also have a ten-way Super tester that checks 3 and 5 pin XLR, 1/4", 3.5mm, RCA, Banana, 8p and 4p Speakon, etc. it's Cat # VEL-VTTEST15, sells for $57.95

They sell a good variety of cable testers from $29.99 to $145.99

We used Cirris cable testers back when I worked in the cable assembly business. They're good, but spendy. They do have a new "low cost" model, the Signature 1000LC, which might be worth looking into.

Another device we used was the Whichender. This is a little hand-held beeper that changes pitch when touched to a connector pin that has a wire connected to it. The pitch stays the same when touched to a pin that the wire broke off of. There's a DIY project called the Curious C-Beeper which shuld perform the same function.

Thank You very much! That's exactly what I'm looking for. A cable checker that costs less than the cables I'm checking....who'd a thunk it!.
