The dog ate my codebook!

Went to look something up this morning and my codebook is not on the shelf. The dog must've ate it or my six year old picked it uo for some exciting reading. Anyhow I'm sure someone can answer my question. At a residential job there is a pedestal about a foot from the house (this is the way the homeowner wanted it) so there are ground rods for the ped right outside the house. Do I need to drive new ones for the service in the house or can I use the same ones?

I don't see why you can't use the same rods. I have installed rods a foot off the house to miss the footings. I cannot see why it would matter and I don't believe there is an article that says you must use separte ground rods.

As I read art. 250.32 (A) I still believe you are okay. By the way here is an online version of the 2005 code.

Update-the dog didn't eat it. I went to wake up my son and it was in his room. Such a proud moment for me. (He was actually just using it for a hard surface to draw on.)

"He was actually just using it for a hard surface to draw on."

Maybe not !
Maybe he's been studying behind your back.

Why don't you make up a short code test and leave it in his room. . Come back the next day and see if he got all the questions right.

If he's a child genius then you won't have to come here anymore to ask any questions. . He might decide to open his own website and run Mike Holt "out of [cyber]town".

Hey maybe you're right. He probably was trying to lead me astray when he said he was using it to draw on. Probably doesn't want it make me feel bad about knowing more NEC info than me. I'll give him that test tonight when we study his spelling words and if he passes-look out Mike Holt.

I know here the poco is putting in pedestals 50 ft from the house with disconnects on them (in the rural areas) because the fire fighters can kill the power before they extinguish the flames..So my question is do you have to ground the pedestal or just at the house?..

Both need to be grounded. Poco will not hook up power at ped if there are no ground rods.

they install the ped and hook it up all you have to do is hook to the disconnect..I did not install rod as I did not install pad..will see on rough in..this is new gig this year with poco..

I would immediatley get the boy into therapy before it is too late. If he is reading code "for fun" he badly needs some help. Good luck!!

If he's reading the code for fun then he plans on being an engineer not an electrician.
