I tend to steal a lot of these. Hope you don't mind.

I remember my first big service (1600). It's nice to see another
excited and proud of his work as I was when I were a wee young lad.
Now I'm exicted when I don't get torque wrench duty in big gear.:D

Hey, there's no snow on the ground, man I miss FL. Anyway, how does that fan blade move any air, it appears to be flat.

Looks like a cover on the fan to me.

Dont think you have all of the bad weather up North. We planned to have a patio dinner outside last night. Then it rained just enough to make it not work out.
68 deg this morning. No sign of snow:mad:

why would you use a megger ive never had to use one before, i mean we used to juice ourself's in school with an old style 1 that would crank out maybe 80-100 v at full crank, but when/why would you use it in practice

So you avoid a "BOOM" when you energize that gear, or after you pull the wires in.

A torque wrench should always be used on bus bars and cable connections. Unless you have the one time nuts that shear at the proper torque. I make my j-men mark all connections with a sharpie to indicate that 1 they actually tightened the bolt or nut. And 2 to verify that the connection has not been compromised. I also make them place a label in the gear with their name, date, employee# and the # of the wrench they used. The only gear failure I have ever seen was actually caused by over torquing. They were single bolt Square D bars in a 1600 amp setup. Field rep told me that the bars would actually warp away from each other and lose surface contact.

It's very important to not only torgue the lugs but the buss as well.
It's also very important to meg feeders. If you have insulation
failure in one or more of those 250's.Not only will you be replacing
those conductors but also the conduit, the concrete, driveway, and
your self-esteem.:D

Oh and let me add not will you be replacing all those things
I mentioned before.BUt, as in the case of a poor soul I once knew,
Could be replacing the entire gear as well. Meggers are very cheap
compared to switch gear.
