Thermal Imagers

Good morning,
I'm entertaining the purchase of a Thermal Imager for preventative and predictive maintenance routines around the plant. Just curious what you guys may have or use. Ideal has one now that I was reviewing called a Heat Seeker. Has any one had their hands on one yet? Hows it's quality? Is it user friendly? Any feed back would be appreciated.

One of the cool things about making a decision on which model and make to purchase is, the manufacturers will help out tremendously.
Contact the different manufacturers, such as Flir and Fluke and let them do all the work in selling you. They will provide you with a ton of information.
There is also training available, which in my estimation is absolutely necessary to really start understanding how to use the equipment. It is not as simple as one may think.
Therrmal imagers are not -Point & Shoot.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide to do.

cool toy?? but no market

cool toy?? but no market

my retiring cohort and I decided that thermal imaging was the way to go!!! He was having shoulder surgery and decided that he may not be able to climb ladders any more, but he could take pictures and do a dog and pony show for customers. We spent $7000 on a FLIR. It is the neatest thing/tool. Everybody thought it was Cool, but we could not seperate their money from their wallet!!! Maybee if we spent BIG BUCKS on marketing and advertizing we could get a few suckers>.

Are you certified? Or just a guy with a camera? Big difference on how many and what jobs you wil get.

I have been involved with IR for 27 some years and I doubt my customers are suckers. Owing a camera and completing a professional IR report with certified ir techs is another thing

What your secret to get cutomers?? Ive tried many approches. I go so far as to offer to bring my camera and use it at standard service call rates- no upcharges for camera/tool fee- add I get that possum in the headlights look?? DUH -what for??

Do you make cold calls to industrial shops??

I usually do not carry a 7000 (easilly stolen ) tool in my truck.

what kind of customers should I look for??

Will a mass mailing marketing (targeted customers) scheme be cost effective??

I'LL try anything once
if looks like fun -or-legal-or -I think I could get away with it !!!!

are most of your customers -repeat? , industrial ?, comercial?, do you get any houses needing insulation checks??
Help me I'm dying out here>>> DENNIS

27 years of IR experience, a good reputation, I was one of 2 companies doing iR in Washington DC for some 15 years, and one of the best IR reports in the area. (competitions words not mine)
