THHN/THWN WIRE

I'm working on a remodel and the grounding to the service (s) is laking. I'm working up a price to bring the grounding up to code. So to keep the cost down would like to run the grounding conductor free air.

Question: Is thhn/thwn wire plenum rated?

Not unless it is in a metallic raceway. Why not use bare?

Thats a code violation, unless all circuit conductors are in the same raceway, the impedance will be too high and a ground fault won't clear....the magnetic fields do not cancel.

I believe he is talking about a GEC, not EGC.

That is my belief as well. If so, #4 can be run free, #6 needs to closely follow building surface and be attached, #8 needs to be in raceway. I don't have what code section that is in handy.

Right I saw THHN/THHW and assumed it was a EGC. Grounding is too vague of a term.
