This is How Electrical Fires Really Start

Sitting in my office one day got a call from someone saying they had smoke coming from under their house, I asked them if they called the Fire Department, the caller said he didn't won't to bother them if it was something that we could fix.

I told them I was hanging up and to call 911 immediately.

Morons are abundant.

TFCI's (Thermal Fault Circuit Interrupters), MSRP $228 1-pole. $535 2-pole and $1,120 3-pole, coming soon to an NEC near you.

point of use thermal dynamics would oust afci technology tomorrow

IF the big boys win the international patent war

My wife used to manage a fast food restaurant. One night(morning) around 1:30am, the phone rang. I answered it and the caller was one of the employees. I asked what he wanted as my wife was asleep. He said there was a fire. I asked if he had called the fire dept, in which he answered no. My wife woke up and I handed her the phone. This is what I heard............
Wife: Did you call the fire dept
Caller: No, I wanted to ask you what to do
Wife: CALL THE FIRE DEPT DUMMIE!:)

The only reason why this isn't in the code being Cutler Hammer is trying to buy all these guys out- bury the concept- and start manufacturing their patent which is one giant money making scheme.

I was involved in a Structure Fire caused by a bath exhaust fan that was in a mechanically " locked rotor " condition.
This could could have easily been avoided by one ounce of common sense.
The Tenant, simply had left the fan switched on and not working for " days."
This is not the only chaos that followed this guy. Far from it.
This is about for one thing a lack of simple education and parental instilled common sense.
The USA education system is a colossal failure, and much of this is by design.

At least he recognizes the limit of his own knowledge and is reaching out for help.

The BSafe receptacle probably wouldn't have any effect -- it looks like a loose connection in the daisy chain. The BSafe has only one screw on each side, forcing you to nut the daisy chain. And it won't detect an overheated loose connection there.

True. John Taylor Gatto, an award-winning schoolteacher from New York, spells out the seven biggest problems:

IDR if that is what we were told, but it is what I understood.

AFCIs promised a whole lot. Then when they didn't combination AFCIs came claiming to do what branch feeder AFCIs originally claimed. Now that combo AFCIs don't do what they originally claimed to do its the same song all over again.

Bingo and 100% agree. I lived it first hand.

Sadly it does not only negatively impact the common man, but also those making the rules... like those on the NFPA CMPs who I regret to say have gaps when it comes to understanding electrical theory. AFCIs were touted to solve this problem but its still happening.
