All,

I can't believe I never thought of this before, but what if anything is done about the residual cutting fluid and metal bits left inside the GRC after threading? I've always wiped them out with a rag as far as I can reach, but that's it. I don't do this very often so your thoughts appreciated. As far as I know the NEC doesn't cover this, or does it?

Thanks as always,

Mark

IMO, the little shavings will not penetrate the insulation and the oil is very little to worry about it being in the conduit.

I think I wiped them out once, then my lead got to me.

On small conduit we would just wipe it out, but on larger sizes, we would often stuff a rag in the end before threading the conduit.
Some guys would rap a rag around a screwdriver, put it in the conduit and push the foot petal to spin the conduit, but the safety guys don't like that.

Thanks all. That's the answer I expected. Obviously, conduit is not blowing up left and right over this, so it must be OK. I was just curious since I rarely do rigid and I'm sure some do it almost daily.

Thanks again,

Mark

Some specifications call for swabbing out raceways before pulling conductors.

Some guys will do it anyway from some of what I read on this site before.
