Guys really need some help in this one.

All my 15 yrs on here very very rarely have I ever requested this.

Asking for general/approximate time you think it woud take 2 guys to do this work.

Some general parameters.
1. Work on 6th floor with a hoist. Guys take lunch on floor and all tools/material needed are on floors.
2. Space is a complete gut.
3. All new work to be connected to existing circuits.
4. All work is MC cable
5. Fixture are EM packs and not separate circuits for EM.
6. No fire alarm. Just what you see. light stringers, Lights,switches, receptacles and IT. We are pulling new cat 6 to patch panel in a room in that location.

Roughly how long do you think it would take 2 guys to:
1. Trace circuits, disconnect and safe off. All removals are by demo contractor.
2. Temp light stringers.
3. Install new lights, switches, branch and boxes
4. Install new receptacles, branch and boxes.
5. Tie into existing circuits.
6. Install data outlets( 2 cat 6 from each location) and cat 6 back to closet about 50' away.

And by the way this is a job already estimated. Curious as to hours some of you would put against this. I know there are other variables you may need to know.

Work is being done now.
 
So like I said I have the estimate for the job, which we have.

I also just gave each new device and light fixture 4 hours to install including the branch as a high budget.

Reason for this inquiry is I believe the guy doing the install is us/me.

Why do you think this? Is it taking longer then you estimated? If so, why is it that you think your estimate is not the problem.

I find myself telling my boss every once in a while when she complains about how many hours it took me to do something that it takes as many hours as it takes.

Because the guys is a complete douchebag and doesn't give a flip. He's 63 and complains about everything. He asked me how a low voltage switch get wire because he's a big pipe guy and doesn't really like interior renovations.

Anyway my estimate had 440 hours to do the work I listed above in that space.

Roughly
57 total lights and switches
40 total receptacles and data devices
Safe off disconnect and light stringers.

Ok, so since no input in this maybe another question.
We have 18 these spaces that are 100% identical. IMO we should get quicker on the 2, 3rd and 4th one….at some point production will level off. Agree?

I mentioned prefab and the foreman said it wouldn't help.

I am pretty sure that your disdain for him will not improve his performance. It may also be you put a guy with the wrong skill set on this project. That is not his fault.

In any case, what difference does it make? Your bonus takes a small hit and you move on to the next project, hopefully learning something about getting the right person to do the work at hand.
 
Well I don’t want job to loose money. Total project I just under $2M. If it loses it could lose $100-200k the way he’s going.

We’re going to either move him to another job or have someone else PM.

I recently did a small project that I had quoted some time ago assuming one of our guys familiar with Siemens would actually program. So i quoted it that way. By the time we actually got the order one of the guys had retired and the other one had moved on to a different company so somehow it ended up in my lap. I figured how much harder can Siemens be than Allen Bradley. Turns out it took a long time for me to learn how the siemens software works. So a project that had about 30 rungs of code in the PLC and a single screen on an HMI took almost a hundred hours just for me to figure out how the software works. Once I figured that out the actual code was pretty easy and didn't take much longer than it would have taken me with the much more straightforward Allen Bradley software. But the learning time sucked.

Which Siemens?

The Allen Bradley seems much more straightforward, likely because you learned it first, imo.

It was a 1200 something. One of the brick style units. Only used about 15 I/O.

The hardware part of it was pretty straightforward but the time spent learning the software took a lot of time. I was shocked how much time it took when all was said and done. It just does not seem like it should take that long but there was no one here who already knew it to help me along and the terminology is completely different than AB so I was forced to read the long and convoluted manuals to figure out how to do stuff.

Unsurprising to me, a lot of the best help came from Youtube videos I was able to find.

It was also my first foray into Profinet.
 
Yes, terminology is typically one of the biggest factors I've found as well. I'm considerably new to programming, but I enjoy it and plan to learn it and understand it much better.

I remember when youtube didn't have commercials, those were the days. Ha
