We were recently called out to complete the lighting install on an office building. It is a 2 story building with all of the previous remodeling and power points being done on the downstairs by others. They are having us install the following lighting: one low voltage monorail track for their entryway/ sign behind receptionist, 2 sconces in their waiting area, and a large 4 light chandelier over their conference area. They are also adding a switched track light under their stairwell and in their offices hallway for accent lighting and a can light under the turn of both stairwells as they are currently being turned into storage areas. They are also removing and replacing a chandelier in the entryway. The only thing being added upstairs is a sconce next to each office door along the hallway to be controlled by one switch (there are six doors total) They currently have 7 troffers lighting this area. My question is it seems to me they are adding ALOT of wattage to the building and I am concerned the inspectors may not let this fly since from what I have read they only allow 1.1 watt per sq. ft. I am also a little confused as to how I would even calculate this. Do I only add the troffers upstairs for the sconce accent lighting? Downstairs do I have to total the entire lighting load and see what I have left over at 1.1 watts per sq. ft.?? My biggest concern is it seems every city has their own idea of what the "code" and "Title 24" means to them and don't want to do all of the work and run into a disaster getting final signed off. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!
