A calorie is the energy needed to raise a gram of water 1 deg. C, not a kilogram.

Also, for completeness:

1 BTU = 252 calories

The BTU is defined at 60 deg. F, (i.e., the heat needed to raise the temperature of 1 pound of water at 60 deg. F by 1 degree F), and the calorie is defined at 14.5 deg. C.
