Too many wire nuts

1/2" or 3/4" EMT works well too...no need to tip the other trades to the bull's eyes painted on them :D

No driver needed.

those are OK but I find them expensive and they don't hold the wires good

I do use them when the drywall guys cut the wires in my box with that roto-zip and there's only like 1/2" of wire in the back of the box to work with.

I hated it when people used their drills for wire nuts. Nothing quite like troubleshotting a circuit and finding that the conductors have 80 twists in them, all the way to the back of the four square box.

The best thing to do with red scotchloks is- get about 3' of 1/2" copper pipe, shave the ears off the wire nuts, & you have a great blow gun. Try it!

I'm gonna try this but when my boys find out there will be wire nuts all over the park and the city will be after me to clean it up.

You can put some wire soap in front of the wire nut for an added surprise. :)
And if you want to add injury to injury, substitute the soap for noalox.

I love the blowgun stuff, but for a completly different reason. Reason: In vocational school, there was about 1/2 of us there to learn the trade. The other half were still in high school, and were the screwups in high school. Then someone started up with the wirenut blowguns when the instructor wasn't looking. Soon all the screw up were into it, but they were drilling out the nuts and putting a screw into it also. A whole bunch of them got expelled, and then the cut up stuff stopped, and we were able to get down to business.

aja21, sorry to hear about your carpal tunnel, I'm sure there are a fair share here that are unfortunately familiar with the condition. Ten years ago I worked for a company that wired condos. One guy pulled wire and I made up the splices. After about 9 months my wrist became sore and I started wearing a wrist brace but that only got in the way. Due to re-location I left the company 3 months later and never did new residential construction again, I could never do it again. My wrist is fine now but will become sore if I stress it.

macmikeman, that sounds like the vo-tech I went to. Where did you attend? Mine was in NJ.

Back in vocational years 1/2 we did all hands on work wiring projects.
everyone in class was still in high school for the second half of the day.

80% of the students were in the vocational to learn but there were always the few who just wanted to get out of classes in the morning.

When someone found that the yellow wire nuts w/o tabs fit into the PVC pipe like it was built to fit it wasn't long before someone found it was a great blow gun...

20% of the class always started that up when the teacher walked out of the room for a minute as the other 80% of the students were trying to get our projects done so we could move on to the next.

Some of the guys used to toss a handful of wire staples at students...those guys didn't stay for long and went back to screwing up at the high school...

Don't even get me started on light bulbs being tossed around the room at others.......

In electronics school we used to charge a cap and toss it to someone for a good charge.

Use of Wego's

Use of Wego's

If you are going to use Wego's make sure that you strip out the correct wire length and that the wire is inserted all the way in. Poor connection can cause overheating and melting of the Wego. I know from experience when we had to replace one on a neutral that opened and put 208v through the receptacles.

These push-in connectors are too risky for me and my organization.

This week we had a peice of equipment with push-in connectors installed by the manufacture that the grounded connection was melted. The push-in connector became loose from frequent cycles of Constant Use (more than three hours ON) with one hour OFF. The heating and cooling of wiring was enough to make the clip in the push-in connector warp and let one of the white wires POP OUT. This equipment was critical saftey item to protect users from coustic liquids, luckily nobody was injured.

But it could very easily been in a AHU (this connector are used by some MFG's) in a dwelling unit and caused a fire in the teh unit. In this case smoke would be pushed to every room in the house while the occupents are sleeping. Very Dangerous.
