How do you keep your tools organized? I just ordered a new USA made Klein bag that has pockets and a leather bottom, but was considering a VETO bag at twice the price. Any one have strong thoughts on organization?

I use both. Widemouth bag for a small number of tools, an old FiberBox for a large number of tools. Bags tend to get things lost in the bottom especially the so called Klein bags. You can't find anything in those narrow and deep bags.

I use a a klein box like this

I which I keep all basic hand tools as well as my tool belt. My tool belt has the basic hand tools and a pouch for wirenuts, crimps, staples, etc...... Doing stationary work I bring the whole box. Troubleshoot or small stuff, I sling my belt over my shoulder. When I do a lot of work like cutting in boxes or wiring lights I put my belt on. The box fits nicely in the truck and can be used as a step stool as well.

I always liked the Klien bag with smaller zipper bags for nutdrivers, wrenches, and other small stuff. I wore overalls for years and never carried a side pouch. Most jobs could be done with three tools or less.

I hate pockets in bags. I need a small strong duffel bag. I use a large Husky bag that I can't find at HD anymore. It ripped 2 months after I got it, but it doesn't leak tools and the tear doesn't get bigger, so its a keeper. I keep a tool belt, the drill, the hacksaw, and some zipper bags and nail aprons inside.

Some guys think my bag is a hockey bag, which i think is weird because not many people play hockey around here.

I've been using the Veto Pro Pack for over three years now. It's held up pretty well, as it should for what it costs. It was a big improvement for me over the tool box I used. A tool box is just that - a box of tools, all piled up on top of each other. I like the pockets in the Veto type of bag. What I don't like is the way the two sets of pockets are back to back. I keep turning the bag around alot to get different tools.

1/2 ton chevy truck full.

1/2 ton chevy truck full.

As a independant service techinician I carry a truck full, and more at home.
On normal service call I bring in a little square bucket -like the ones that 50lbs of screws or nails are shipped in. I also have a small snap on belt pouch that will hold the basic tools. I found that with a large tool belt/pouch I do more damage than good in a residential house or office.

I have a big bag type for general stuff. I have a tool pouch for service calls. I have a holster for my Mil driver that also carries my strippers and a screw driver. I real often put on a nailing apron when doing trim to carry wire nuts etc. I hate wearing a tool belt. Between my holster and my pockets I can carry most of what I need. On a big project I will have several sets of tools on every floor. I have a lot of tools and I don't like to have to walk very far to get what I need. In the truck I have several metal boxes. I tell people that if you can't fix it with what I have in my truck,it can't be fixed!!

1 to 1-1/2 gal size bag with handle and side pouches to haul frequently used hand tools and tape, few wirenuts, misc small items like plate screws, crimp sleeves, etc. Transfer selected items to toolbelt if I'm on a long repetitive task (installing a bunch of switches, etc). Use pants pockets, shirt pocket, teeth, whatever for a small one-shot task. Other stuff in tool boxes.

My veto bag tends to get overloaded to the point where I need a forklift to follow me around with it. I have a parachute bag with assorted wirenuts connectors and screws in it that finds its way to me very often. Cardboard box with ducttape is where I end up sometimes. I used to cringe 25 yrs ago when I first saw this.

LOL, I just taped up a box the other day for the Jeep. I'm mostly using a bag/pouch slung over my shoulder, with a set of clip-on pouches for oddball screws, wirenuts, etc and a larger one for bits that I don't use all the time. Other bits, blades and drivers are packed into the carrying cases of my cordless tools. Less often used tools are kept in bags or stowed in the Jeep in various spots. Once I'm in, I usually use pockets for tools and park the bag somewhere.

One thing I highly recommend for reducing weight is going with Wiha screwdrivers and Knipex dykes, linemans and cobra pliers. The weight difference in even a small set can be a few pounds and I've been incredibly impressed with quality. No more Kleins.
