Reading through the hd article and came up with a question. Where do the majority of you guys buy your handtools? Do you go through the local supply store or is it off to the big box stores? which supply house big box store do you prefer and why?

I'm all over the map on this one. If I see some thing that will make the job easier, I get it where ever I may be.

I'm crafty enough to swipe what I have from others when they aren't looking.

Actually, the supply house is where the vast majority of mine come from.

After some Crack Head busted into my van and got my tool belt and 18 volt DeWalts, I went out and bought most of the replacements the same day at the supply house.

#1: home depot (klein is my favorite); after christmas buy's are great
#2: Electrical distribuitors, San Jose, CA; because they have every hand tool I need
#3: flea market: for all my 18 volt DeWalt tools, cause I figure a drill with a battery will cost me $100 at the flea market and lasts as long as a new one (a year and a day, just long enough to be out of manufacturer's warantee time period) versus $230 at home depot and $250 at E.D.
#4: Grainger, San Jose, CA; because I have credit there

when you have no money, Kragen Auto Parts sells drills, sawsalls, etc, for about $20 each!

new neon-green Ryobi power tools at least hold their charge, nowdays, not like the blue Ryobi

Rigid has a life-time warantee
Makita makes great 12v impact drills, it amazes me but you can use a spade bit it one and it works very well

But all my friends have DeWalts, so I can borrow batteries at jobsites no problem. (18 volt only)

i found a 36 volt reconditioned kit that includes a flashlight, sawzall, circular saw, drill and charger for 400 dollars on amazon.com

Power tools - any place reputable.

you gotta watch pawn shops especialy in this economy, a guy here awile back bought a couple hundred bucks worth of stuff from a pawn shop and the police showed up and took it into evidence.

i got a somewhat brand new y39 burndy hypress with 9 different dies. all the dies i pretty much need came with it. it was a pawnshop that sold stuff on ebay i got it for 200 bucks

I buy high dollar items new or in good used condition on Ebay.
Hand tools I buy from my supply house for less than cost, he cuts electricians a break if you regularly buy from him.
