Estimating software

Estimating software

I am a current AccuBid user, previous ConEst user, and McCormick demo viewer. I have also used Vision's EBM. Mccormick didn't strike me as very user friendly and just seemed like windows interface over a dos based program very similar to what Estimation did with their program.

This is the second time I have been on AccuBid (different companies). We have several offices with estimators in each. Some of them love Accubid but really haven't seen anything else. IMHO I prefer ConEst because of the ability to make changes and really have better control over the input with way fewer mouse clicks. The only thing ConEst doesn't have of that AccuBid has is the sort function. But, there are numerous things ConEst does that Accubid can not do.

Try changing a quantity of a take of item in Accubid. You have to go through several windows as opposed to immediately doing it in ConEst. There are numerous other examples. The key is finding the program that you can learn quickly and can grow with you.

ConEst's trainer can be a bit dry as someone mentioned earlier, but he does know the program basics very well. Also, their office has always been very responsive and supportive.

Speaking of support...that is always an important consideration as well. AccuBid seems to be fairly slow to respond in comparison to usually talking to someone when I actually call.

Boy Jim, I would say that is putting it nicely. He is one of the main reasons I am looking at Accubid now. He does know the basics of the software but does not have a clue on how to estimate, in my humble opinion. George Hauge however is a first class person who I have nothing but praise for.

I have decided to go with with ConEst. It was a tough choice between ConEst and McCormick, but the promotion that ConEst is giving me made the choice a bit easier.Seeing how I have been posting updates on my search, I figured I would let everyone know what my final choice was. Would like to thank everyone that has given me their opinions and history with programs they use.

Actually, he used to be an estimator at Rosendin in California. One of the larger contractors in the country. Perhaps "used to be" is an operative phrase there.! Don, I believe his name was, does like to go through it in a scripted manner. I went to an Accubid training in Atlanta last year, the guy wasn't as dry but couldn't really handle questions very well either. Maybe they need to train their trainers!
