Trade Terms that should go away

The "male" and "female" parts thing got me in a bit of trouble when I was in high school and had a part time job at the local hardware store. A male customer wanted to know which was which. I told him it "sir, it is just like people", and got back a blank look, so I had to go on..."the male goes in the female". My customer turned red and left...a few hours later my boss, while laughing, told me to find another explanation.

Members, at this point it should be apparent we run a G rated sight here.

Keep the innuendos, the bathroom humor, the juvenile jokes to yourself or use the PM feature of this forum.

I would like this thread to remain open but if you can not stay on topic it will be closed.

If those items are going to be policed then rudeness needs to fall into the same category. What`s good for the ghost is good for the gander.

You may never have heard this before but with certain EC's out here "Means and Methods".....I guess that is how you avoid wiring per code. This thread is now compliant. However, I did not see this thread in the gutter just simply dealing with old "Trade Slang" In the field of construction....? Did anyone get offended?

The phrase is " what's good for the goose is good for the gander", referring to both male and female of the species. I haven't been offended-so far.

Bob.......I noticed......but the "kids" were in bed.

Yes, when many of those post where made it was not 'prime time'.

But the posts will remain and be read by everyone.

IMO it is important to remember that while you are having a conversation with one or two people in a thread that it is available to anyone that looks in. This forum has many more members that are lurkers than posters.

Just like you would not say certain things to your friends in public that you would say in private I expect that concept to be applied to our posts.

You can say whatever you want in a PM, but here on the forum I would like to see a bit of restraint. :)

I thought it was GOAT and GANDER? Neither one makes sense.
I`ll edit the goat for goose. What it means is from an early proverb what is good for a woman is good for a man.Sliding into today it means, if it is good for me then it is also good for you.

As far as prime time subjects.Have you seen what the kids can watch today on toon network or many of the other networks.I cringe at some and shut them off when my girls are watching. But they are still kids and not adults.

Maybe there should be a post disclaimer (this subject matter is an adult subject and parental discretion is advised ) :)

Well, we all work in this trade, I can't see how anyone could/should be offended by the limited "adult subject material" that is spoken here. There is far worst being spoken out on the jobsite.

This is not a job site, and the reason there is little offensive material here is because we do not allow it.

Trust me when I tell you we prevent some very offensive material from posting.

Have you also noticed that there is no spam at this site?

Again that is because we do not allow it.

One last thing, here is a quote about Mike H that can be found on his main site.

Mike's commitment to God has helped him develop a lifestyle that places God first, then family, self and then his career.

About Mike

Check the link, Mike is a championship water skier and a car racer.

Oh I can only imagine the kind of stuff that you guys see and actually have to filter out. I for one am glad that the time is taken to clean up what is posted on here because it surely could get out of control in a heartbeat. My point of what I was saying, and maybe it came out wrong, was that the content on here, "that we see", is not offensive at all, or at least not to me. It is important to keep a close eye on things since certain subjects could easily turn into a sort of "cyber" shouting match if it were allowed. You guys do a great job in keeping things running smoothly and directed toward the subject in question, which provides a great learning tool.

Thanks Bob, and after meeting Mike Holt last Thursday and conversing with him for several moments and thanking him for this FREE Forum I will show respect. Thanks again.

There is language used on construction sites that unfortunately become a bad habit. Trying to take an electrician from construction to service takes some work, dress code, language, gawking at clients (primarily women), rude jokes. Even if the customers condone it, we do not.
