I keep having Transformer questions and you guys have all the answers for me.

I'm going to add a transofrmer and wondering if there is a maximum length that I can run either liquidtight or flexible metal conduit to the transformer from the main power panel ?

Or if I can use this at all

its a 45kva transformer 480/240 delta witha 120 tap that I won't be using.

I assume I should sink a copper ground rod and tie my grounds to it. From the primary side panel and from the machine ground lug.

I would like to go maybe 10'

I don't see anything in the NEC that would stop you from going 10 feet except in Article 348.20, where there is exceptions for 3/8" trade size. Though for that size of transformer, I am sure you are using a lot larger size than that.

(Usually I don't say this, and I don't know if I am stepping out of bounds... moderators, moderate me if need be)

Perhaps you should consider hiring an electrical contractor who is familiar with tranformer installations and who knows the NEC requirements and the safety issues involved with proper grounding of xfmrs? The questions you are asking are quite basic and should be known by anyone doing the work you are proposing.

Mike, Nothing personal, but I share a bit of Crossman's concerns. I've reviewed your Forum posts and I have a concern in that I see a lack of understanding of some of the basic rules involving transformers and grounding. I fear the answers we are giving provide false assurances that you end up with a safe, Code compliant installation. As with Crossman, I am NOT a moderator so I may be putting my 2 cents in where it doesn't belong, but from many years in the field, I too would recommend that you obtain the services of a contractor with some transformer expertise as you study the installation requiremnts. Sorry if this offends as that is not my intent.

Sorry moderators if this is out-of-line
