Transformer life expectancy

There are manufacturer guidelines for transformer life expectancy - I'm sure based on delta T and conditions - but are there any resources out there that have actual life lengths? For example, if a transformer is 30 years old, but has been maintained well and in good conditions, it could be expected to operate much longer. Is there a book or data that has real life times out there?

I am interested in researched, creditable, data as well - not interested in anecdotal information. I've seen some data that was based on industry polls - I'd tell you if I could remember from where. As I recall, the main issue with the data was the small sample size.

In the 45 years I've been in the biz, limiting my view to maintained, oil-filled. industrial transformers, applied within their limits, I have never seen a transformer fail. This is an example of exactly the kind of anecdotal information that I'm not looking for.

When you find a creditable source, let us know.

Thank you for the reminder. I didn't see your post until after I had sent mine. So I pulled out my copy of the Gold book, 1997 - and there was the data - mostly based on 1972 data.

I looked up the current version of ieee 497 - 2007.

It appears to have 1993 data as well as the 1972 data.

Whoops I mis-stated. king didn't. ieee 493 is the gold book.
