Considering the neutral can only carry current seen on the phases, it is not plausible to need one.
The only thing I could think of would be overload protection if you only used one neutral for more than one single phase branch circuit. Like 1 neutral for 20 120V loads all on A phase and didn't size the neutral right.
But that is against the code. So that kind of defeats that purpose. I also don't see how you could fuse a neutral and still abide by 240.22.
