Transformer Spacing

How far away would a new 75 KVA stepdown transformer (pad, aircooled, 480V to 208V) need to be spaced from an existing 75 KVA transformer?:-?

Would the spacing need to be different if the new transformer was 150 KVA?:-?
 
The NEC require each manufacture to give you the minumum distance for ventilated openings.
Most companies that is 6" - but check the drawings could be as little
as 3"

Since most manufactures do not have ventilated opening on the side - there is no code issue preventing you from putting the devices right next to each other.

I've looked at many of your posts, and don't see where you have added much to the conversation, hope your glass house is shatter proof....:D



As far as the OP, the distance I like to use between transformers to allow for enough convection cooling is typically no less then 2 feet. Certain conditions may not allow this, and smaller, non-heavily loaded transformers may not need it. Just a rule of thumb.

Pretty basic... why doesn't this person seek design assistance??? If this person is an EC, this method of "design" is what's wrong the the EC profession.

Edit: This person is an EC.

As long as you meet the manufacturer's suggestions, you're fine.

The whole point of a transformer is that the magnetic field is inside the enclosure. Sure, some of it gets out, but not enough for you to worry about.

You might want to reread my initial reply. I wasn't questioning anything other than the fact that, put together, there were (4) threads by this fella that implied he needed design help. I was simply stating the obvious, but you drew a different conclusion and chose to point fingers. You can read into it what you care to. :rolleyes:

Interesting enough, I show up a week later to find a thread by the same user titled "Quality Engineer", with what appears to be the same or very similar system involved.

Absolutely nothing wrong w/ that. If I knew of a good and not NASA expensive stamp in LA, I'd promptly PM him.
