To the OP, the cooler you keep the transformer the more efficient it will run and the longer it will last. Go with the additional help of the forced air if you have the choice.

Hotter = higher resistance = less efficient.
 
ONAF = Oil - Natural, Air - Forced versus
ONAN = Oil - Natural, Air - Natural

The disadvantage to the non forced-air unit is that if it's the same size unit as the forced-air unit, it can't provide as much capacity.

If you're buying a new transformer, and you're selecting between those two choices, you could opt to buy the ONAN with provisions to add the fan package when your load gets large enough to substantiate it.

Addition of fans typically provides for 25% additional capacity.
