We are trapped between trying to satisfy both the engineer specs of not over 10 feet of conductor and the building's owner specs of wanting it no less than 16 feet above the floor.It's a warehouse and they want it well out of forck lift ways.We would prefer mounting it near the trusses at 25 feet.It is a 30 kva about 300 lbs

Jim,
Are you asking about the length of the primay or the secondary? My answer was about the primary. The secondary limit would be based on the rules in 240.21(C). You can go to 25'of conductor based on the code rules.

We are feeding this transformer from our 480 panel and it then feeds our low volt panel.They are next to each other.Promlem is they dont want the transformer on the floor .Transformer was to go in the electric room along with panels.They kicked us out of the electric room for the computer and phones as they dont want the heat from our transformer.So now we are on a wall in the warehouse.For some crazy reason the building owner does not allow the transformer on the floor.Both primary and secondary will be same lenght

On warehouse and factory floor installations, we've often core drilled the floor in several places and set concrete filled steel posts to protect the xfmr from fork trucks. Perhaps that is not an option the building owner will entertain in your case.

Stupid as it sounds ,yes they have set post in front of panel.This is a strange outfit that owns several buildings and leases them out.Tenant has to build within specs everything going inside.For some reason cause this transformer is not in a room they see it as a problem.

Don't know how much current here, just a stray idea. Have seen busway (368.12) and gutter with both cord connected breakers and fuses set 'way up high.
Edit: Have no experience with 404.8(a) exception 3. Anyone?

Sounds like the engineer failed to comply with the owner's requirements. I would suggest throwing it back into the engineer's lap, and let them resolve the conflict.

As I said, so far, it hasn't been an issue.
We have installed fusible safety switches adjacent to transformers suspended from bar joists in big warehouses and haven't had any issues with inspectors YET (emphasis). This is usually when we have a big box with 36' or 38' clear height and we wouldn't make the tap rules.
