Has anyone ever come across transite pipe used as electrical conduit in an underground installation?
I am told it was used at one time for raceway for both high and medium voltage installations, but have not been able to verify this.
Transite was a heat resistant concrete-asbestos pipe commonly used in chimneys years ago.
Any additional information concerning transite pipe use for electrical installation would be heopful.

I worked in an Aerospeace Manufacturer in the Denver area that was built in the mid 1950s. The incomming was 13.2KV and was installed in the transite pipe.
After they closed the plant and decided on development on the site the building was scheduled for demolition. I obtained a contract to assist with the demolition. It was found that all the site lighting (this covered about 20 acres) was done in this also and had to be remediated.
