With gas at $4 just how far do we go before its just not worth it.Iam talking about personal truck/car and my own gas.Now costing me little over $20 a day for a 41 mile trip each way.Its a big bite out of the pay check.

Ask for a cost-of-driving raise.

For the last 11 years the companies I have worked for expect you to travel up to 40 miles one way in your own vehicle.

Beyond 40 miles the guys get millage.

This may sound cold hearted, and is not directed at anyone if particular, but I really have little sympathy for anyone who drives a truck or any gas guzzler for a personal vehicle for daily commuting. Being short sighted is the American way after all.

I do completely empathize with those who need trucks for businesses purposes who are getting squeezed, however.

Yeah, he could get up a little earlier and ride a bicycle to work. Anybody taken a cab ride lately? The last one I was in a couple months ago had 12 bucks on the meter as soon as I sat down.

Its kinda weird, I have never been in a cab in my entire life....

I do not see gas prices getting any cheaper.

Highly unlikely. And the auto makers are reeling from their aforementioned shortsightedness. It's the classic case of putting all of your eggs in one basket, and the bottom of the basket fell out.

I've read several newspaper articles in the recent past about NYC taxi drivers who still struggle to make a living even at those rates. It's a very tough business apparently.

I would love to hire a rickshaw to drive me and my 1000lb or so of tools to work every day, please let me know when you are available.

How much are you carrying tool wise. I did the math and for me to go from SUV to a Prius saved enough gas to make the payments and an extra $100 left over, I do allot of running around but do the math i was surprised going from 11 mpg to 45 mpg is huge, Prius may have to be the first car i've owned that wasn't made in America

All these 4wds that have never seen anything that didn't have pavement under it and just haul posteriors from one place to the next just blow my mind.

$4 a gallon is about .60cents cheaper then we are paying in CA. AAA says that peak gas mileage is reached between 40-45 MPH, anything over that and your MPG start dropping off exponentially with your increase in speed.
Drive like an old lady and you will save money.

If i drove 40 they would run over me.I drive with the flow at about 70 to 80 on interstate.Takes an hour now.Another car is just practicle for now as i do need to haul tools and other things.Last thing i need is a car payment.I plan to retire in less than a year.

If everybody "slowed down" there would be more cars on the roads. Thus, traffic tie-ups much worse, higher risk of accidents, fatigue, etc. etc.

Time is also $$$ so the longer you are wasting time on the road you're wasting $$.

Personally, if someone wants a big SUV, it's a free country and they can have it.

These tiny cars are "L" on the back, especially mine. Some things ain't worth the pain in the back. My F150 saved my back when I blew out a disk.

It the crooks in DC would open up the north slope in Alaska and off shore we would be much better off.

Rant off.

The thing that really bothers me about this situation is that most employees can't even write this off as a business expense. Folks we are talking about five grand a year just to get you back and forth to work.

If they can't get the price of gas down there should at least be some tax relief for the American worker.

Just my opinion.
