Trench Duct w/ grated top

I have a client who wants a trench duct in the floor with a grated top so that the wiring can be seen and used as a "teaching tool". In this manner, the wiring can be seen and expose the technology aspect of wiring the space. I mentioned a plexiglass cover but later found out that my usual manufacturer of trench duct does not make this product with a UL Label. I would like to cite a specific code reference that would prohibit underground exposed grated duct that would be vulnerable to liquids, dirt etc since this would be a high foot traffic area. My suggestion was to use cable tray overhead and expose the technology that way keeping the conductors out of harms way. Any help with this code reference would be appreciated.
 
Take a look at 390.3(c).
Obviously an ahj call, but an argument could be made for plexigalss which provides "adequate mechanical protection"
 
It is a Technology Center, where people will be using computers at different stations. It is being designed as a learning/fun experience.
 
The wiring will be energized. MC cable might be an option, but from a design standpoint I would really prefer to get it out of the slab. Thanks to augie 47 for the reference, that was exactly the reference I was planning to use. I was wondering if there any others in Chapter 3 that I overlooked.
 
Can you find a UL listed trench duct with a grated cover?

I would suggest looking at 110.8, 110.27, and 300.3a, in addition to Augie's suggestion.
 
will the grate be open or covered with plexi? Do you have any idea the crap thats going to accumulate in there?
 
We used Lexan quite a bit in the sign business. If it was approved for 13,000 volts to cover neon why not 480 volt feeders? BTW the thicker stock was considered bullet resistant.
