Both TV's were bought at a the same, had sequensial serial no.s and were both defective. :D
:D :D

I figured the reciever for satelite looks at the signal beamed from the satelite, which could contain a list of approved card numbers. If the card sees a bad number or no card, it shuts down the output to the TV. Since the satelite compnay provided the equipment, it makes sense. Much akin to Playstation protection measures.

But I am no authority on this, fer sure fer sure.

Re: Troubleshoot this!

Why go through all that fancy shmancy stuff anyway when you could just have Guido go by and work out something, a little more, "amicable".

Re: Troubleshoot this!

Boy are the myth's flying around here. :(

But I'm willing to bet the sleep mode was set to turn off the tv. I had one of these sets that when you hit the power button it gave you the sleep option and if you didn't know which to slect it would turn off the set after a few hours. :D

Re: Troubleshoot this!

Perhaps someone is using this as an excuse for a faulty product. :D

I just can not buy any of this. :p

Re: Troubleshoot this!

What you describe is a long going urban legend.
Really?

I hate when I fall for them!!!

Why do the "bootleg" cards stop working all of a sudden?

If someone is stealing cable service, the cable company can prosecute
Ok, here's the other part of the "legend"! I was told there is nothing illegal about picking up a signal that is being sent through the air!? (Satelite)

Perhaps the makers and sellers of these cards are not very concerned with product quality of these parts.

Who is the customer going to complain to? :D

You are correct receiving signals from the air is not illegal many times.

The illegal part is unscrambling the signals.

At least that is how it works for many types of communications.
