Re: Troubleshooting ~ elusive neutral ???

You know it's pretty much just luck when you can get one from your desk. :D

And in a few months I'm sure we can all move past it. :D :D

Re: Troubleshooting ~ elusive neutral ???

I just hate it when I have to ask a stupid question, but that's never stopped me yet.

So... would one of you tell me what (or who) a "BIL" is?

... brother-in-law(BIL)... .
I had a high school teacher that said "There is no such thing as a dumb question" ....
(I would STRONGLY debate that now - when my 5 year old asks me "Why?" every 10 seconds...LOL :D )

jbfan74 -- Thanks!

Celtic -- Oops! I read the thread a couple of times and somehow I still managed to miss your initial definition of BIL.

Guess I'd better cut back on the late-night wine?

Well..you asked..so here it is:
$3594.26 to "replace" 1 GFCI.

Job total: $5894.26 (Contract on other "code violation" work $2300.00)

I don't feel "bad" - but any sane person would have to ask: " $3600.00 to replace 1 stinky GFCI ? ? ? "

When you consider it took 54 man-hours to trace the "lost neutral" (that was behind the HO's favorite kitchen chair the whole friggin' time while he keep tight lipped), and add in a few bucks for misc. material it's pretty easy to hit 3.6k.

Would anyone offer any sort of discount here?

Re: Troubleshooting ~ elusive neutral ???

I can't help but feel I should be in for a piece of that action. :D

Re: Troubleshooting ~ elusive neutral ???

The fact that the ho and bil wired the house originally no. They made the work harder then had the origional electrician done the job. Did ho know about the ac not being bonded? Or is he playing stupid? In my opinion were here to make mony. Did this job take you away from another one? Is your helper willing to take a cut in pay then why should you. I have to thank this forum for changing my mind as to how to bid and run a company.

Re: Troubleshooting ~ elusive neutral ???

The HO and BIL did not do the original wiring, but did enough "modifications" that, IMHO, the WHOLE house needs to be rewired....while repaired the the flying splice in the wall, my guy found ANOTHER box right below it.
I wish I had my camera with me to take pictures of all the buried boxes/slices we found. Some walls now resemble Swiss cheese.

Naturally, the HO is playing dumb...and the BIL remains drunk from 9AM until we leave - I think he wakes up drunk. The HO is plenty POed at the BIL's "work" - and rightfully so.

I agree..thank god for this forum and you other conscientious ECs.

That was good Celtic.

Why would you want to end up like BIL Physis?

Re: Troubleshooting ~ elusive neutral ???

I still don't get it, but I feel pretty good about myself anyway. :)

It could be a whole new thing, "ambiguous humor" :D I kind a like it.

Re: Troubleshooting ~ elusive neutral ???

Don't tell anybody Wayne, but I've been known to miss some pretty obvious stuff from time to time.
