Troubleshooting Voltage Drop Across Relay

So the body control module no longer can control the lights?

Yes that is correct, when the truck is in run/start the daytime running lights power on. The only difference is that now the control module is no longer waiting on the ambient light sensor to give a signal back to the module to trigger the relay.

And so you will have the Daytime Running Lights on at night too. One possible drawback is that you risk not realizing you need to turn your headlights on. Question: What happens to the DRL system lights when you turn the headlights on? Is it vehicle code legal to have DRLs on at night?

This was a common problem 10-15 years ago with GM, Honda, and some others. DRLs were on whenever the car was running and bright enough that people were driving around at night unaware their lights were not on. I’m surprised there weren’t more rear end collisions.
My brother had a Buick that actually had the full headlights on whenever the engine was running. The problem is, you had to turn on the lights or you had no tail lights! That was about the dumbest thing ever.
At one point, GM even lobbied the regulators to make them (front lights always on) mandatory.

I know it's not legal to have fog lights on with the high beams. There is an interlock that kills the fogs when you hit the high beams. Since these are separate lights I see no difference between them and fogs in that respect.

I would have just done away with the DRLs. Never saw the need for them anyway, never liked them.
