I'm trying to find exactly where troughs are mentioned in the code. Also is it true that it's only a trough if it is directly attached to a panel? If it is attached by nipples it becomes a pull box?
Can you outline the trough wire fill calculations for each scenario, service, feeder, branch ckts. Thanks

I believe what you are referring to is an auxiliary gutter (Article 366) which would supplement the wiring for a panel. Also a metal wireway (Article 376) which is typically not used to supplement the wiring space for a panel but is used for a pull box or raceway.
