That's an interesting fix -- unfortunately not a legal one. If they turn the horizontal 4 gang around things would be peachy.

Why was it tripping, and what did the box being turned 90? have to do with it?

What did you do to solve the trip problem?

Nothing yet. This was the end of the day. Subhumans have to be out of the building be 4PM. The problem is only in the bath and a hall with 3 high hats. Changed position of the 4 switches and opened the air gap on the Vario and was still reading 0 ohms. Thats when I starting opening stuff up. And cutting.

I'll have an answer for you tomorrow evening.

I'm still trying to comprehend what I'm seeing. By the second pix, it looks horizontal (based on the door hinge on the right of the box). So I'm corn-fused. :-?

Horizontal box in pic 2 is the original install. Your in the hall. Note the 3/4 offset nipple going up and into new vertical 4 gang seen in pic one.

Also note I took the drawers out of the millwork in pic 1. Thats where the horizontal box is.

Do I think a joint went bad in this box after years and years? Unlikely IMO. When I opened up the box in the bath did I need to find the buried one? You betcha.

i've seen the leads going to the lampholder come loose and touch the shell of the fixture, causing the cb to trip. sometimes they overheat and burn loose.

Gotcha..... the horiz. box in pix 2 is buried. The box 'above' it is the vertical box that got installed when the cabinet crew showed up.

More pictures from the same job.

The missing box cover and the missing NM clamp cancel each other out. Kind of like eating a candy bar and a diet soda......
