TV over fireplace

Need to put outlet above fireplace for a TV. Chimney goes directly out wall then up the side of the house. I have concerns with how hot it will get about a foot above the mantle inside the wall over the fire box. It is on a outside wall so I was thinking I would place inside existing insulation to shield from fireplace heat but what type of cable would be best? Is MC or NM better to use in this application? I would also like to run some conduit for pulling low voltage later what would be best type to use?

There should be no excessive heating around duct, if there was you may have bigger problems. Most chimneys are double walled to provide insulation from heating.....here in Fl anyways!:smile:

I agree. If you are concerned about there being this much heat in this area, then the electrical conductors should be the least of your concerns. Also check your TV viewing angle. Many TV's have a very narrow optimum viewing angle. You may find that the picture looks very "washed out" when placing it this high on the wall. Just a thought. My TV has a very wide side-to-side viewing angle, but up-and- down is very narrow. You can see a big difference in just standing versus sitting in a chair.
