Twist or not

Re: Twist or not

I never try to twist stranded wires into solid conductors or twist multi stranded conductors together for that matter. I think you have a good possibility of damaging individual strands. I will twist all my solid conductors together and then make sure my stranded conductor/s are 1/8" longer than the trimmed edge of the solid wires. When you apply the wire nut, it will make a very tight connection.

Re: Twist or not

Wayne,

Thanks for the info. I was refeing to this post by you though...

"What gets me is that with bulk bags of wirenuts there is an adaptor for a drill in the bag."

Re: Twist or not

Batch Ideal wire-Nuts wing type have the drill adaptor in bag's of 500 and 1000 and many other brands do to but I have only seen them in wing type or the hard shell small orange ones. The problem is knowing when to let off the trigger of the drill as it can damage the wire too. as it will try to pull more wire into the box and skin the wire on the box clamp.

Re: Twist or not

When I try my hands at doing some hands-on work, I definitely twist. There's nothing wrong with, the twist. I like twisting... :)

Re: Twist or not

Only takes a few seconds and we can walk away knowing we did it above min. and won't fall apart. If not twisting causes a problem under warranty we will lose far more time.

Re: Twist or not

That is a great point Jim! Just going back one time because of a loose connection would take more time than twisting all the wires on a entire house job.
